These changes will begin to roll out in mid-December 2021. It will change the way that you request and download Microsoft's on-premises products. The selection of products available to nonprofits and libraries will change, too.

These changes apply only to Microsoft's on-premises products. These are the products for which you pay once and use for as long as you'd like. Microsoft's cloud offers will not be impacted.

Effective April 4, Microsoft will no longer offer products as donated on-premises licenses to nonprofits (outside of some exceptions).

On-premises software will only be available at not-for-profit discount pricing. Microsoft will thereafter focus its donations to the not-for-profit sector in cloud solutions.

Exceptions

Eligible nonprofits will be able to request donated Windows Pro licenses through Enclude.

Eligible nonprofits will be able to request donated licences of select Microsoft products for public-access computers. Libraries will not be eligible for these licenses.

This applies only to on-premises items in our Microsoft catalog that are labeled “Donation.”

Our recommendations

  • Take advantage of Microsoft Donations before it's too late. Your organisation will be able to access the current Microsoft Donation Program up until 4 April, 2022. However, after 29 December, 2021 the Donations Program will no longer offer many popular Microsoft on-premises products (including Windows Get Genuine Operating System). We highly recommend that you access the current Microsoft Donation Program before 29 December if you rely on on-premise licences to power your organisation.

  • Consider the cloud. Organisations will continue to be able to request Microsoft cloud products like Office 365 through Enclude. These offers provide the same functionality as the on-premises tools, often with more robust, secure, and resilient features.
